Microsoft Blocks Live Messenger in Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Sudan

In Cuba, Iran, North Korea or Sudan, you may find that it is difficult to login Live/MSN Messenger in the past few days. Anyhow you can login but it was with an error dialog saying "81003C Error".

Dog-Fooding Ourselves on WeBuzz.IM

We are eating our own dog food everyday, using WeBuzz.IM in our daily network life. And we find some bugs, we love some features and want to add some more .

Avatar (or profile picture) is the main feature of Windows Live Messenger (MSN). As it is known, in Microsoft's official messenger, we have to click on everyone's icon to view the latest picture. It's very inconvenient for us to catch up with friends' updates. While, WeBuzz.IM shows all pictures by default. In this case, we won't miss any new avatars. And we like to see those familiar avatars and would enjoy new avatars coming up now and then.

Everyone likes the notification way. Most time, we do not like to be disturbed. While on internet ,we always notify some blinking titles starting with "[", "<", "(", or anything else. Such useless message is not welcome , especially in working time. Don't be worry. WeBuzz.IM can provide you a "safety situation"---no disturbution.

For bugs, clicking on the scrollbars won't activated the messenger client, a little confusion. IE 8.0 is not well supported yet. If there more than 2 messengers are open, it seems that no enough space is left for chatting ... All these bugs may be fixed or may be improved in the future.

Any others bugs? Which features do you like? What new features do you like to see in the future updates? Please report bugs or make feature requests, or just leave us comments.

Embed WeBuzz.IM in Your Website

About 6 months ago, we have a post talking about embeding izuz.net web IMs into other websites. At that time, we did not use the name "WeBuzz.IM" and did not make http://webuzz.im/ as the primary service site. And now we would like to update this kind of information for developers:

To embed WeBuzz.IM in your website is very simple, just add a SCRIPT element with src="http://webuzz.im/im.js" into your HTML pages:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://webuzz.im/im.js"></script>

For example:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
<title>We Buzz Together @ WeBuzz.IM</title>
</head>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://webuzz.im/im.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

Someone have reported that "http://webuzz.im/" may not be accessible in some country/network, you may replace http://webuzz.im/im.js with

  • http://izuz.net/im.js
  • http://uziz.net/im.js
  • http://demo.java2script.org/im.js
  • http://java2script.org/im.js

We will synchronize these scripts when we make updates.

We DO NOT recommend you to copy this im.js to your website and load your copy. As you may get out of date and WeBuzz.IM in your website may not be working. But if you do insist doing so, you can follow WeBuzz.IM @ http://twitter.com/webuzzim and subscribe this blog feed for latest updates and synchronize your im.js.

If you embedding WeBuzz.IM under URL with words "gtalk", "msnlive", "ymessenger" or "aim", the specific messenger will be launched automatically when the page is loaded. For example, page http://###.###.com/gtalk.html will launch Google Talk automatically.

And we would like to hear your feedback and feature requests on integrating WeBuzz.IM into your websites. It would be kind for you to send us an email telling us that you are embedding WeBuzz.IM in your websites. We may link to you or notify you for our updates.

All Alternative URLs for WeBuzz.IM

WeBuzz.IM was developed from demo.java2script.org, and then izuz.net with uziz.net, and now webuzz.im. So there are lots of URLs for the web Gtalk/MSN/AIM/Yahoo! Messenger services. Here is a list of available offical URLs:

Someone may embed WeBuzz.IM client in other pages by copying index.html, *.css, *.js and images. We support them to do so. But they have to update *.css/*.js/*.html file frequently or those pages will be out of date very soon.

BTW: Some visitors report that they can not access our primary server http://webuzz.im/ . Those visitors may take some tries on the alternative URLs.

Better Performance

We are improving WeBuzz.IM client's performance these days. And we just have released our 20090313 version.

IE 6.0 users may benefit from this update mostly. In IE 6.0, the client's UI may not be responsible on mouse dragging and dropping or other operations. And the most annoying thing is that WeBuzz.IM client becomes un-operatable after logging in for about an hour. Really bad performance! Now we are very pleased to tell you that these scenarios get improved for all browsers, especially for IE 6.0.

WeBuzz.IM's client is a little heavy on loading as it uses lots of JavaScript. The performance of JavaScript will never be good enough for us. Thanks for all those innovations on browsers, we get JavaScript performance improved a lot. The JavaScript engine inside Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome or Opera runs very fast, enough for WeBuzz.IM client to run smoothly.

But lots of our users still use IE 6.0 (about 25% of WeBuzz.IM's daily visitors). IE 6.0 is really old ( 8+ years old), and its performance is really frustrating. Here again, seriously, we recommend our IE 6.0 users upgrading to IE 7.0, or switching to Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome or Opera, which are a lot faster.

No matter what browsers you are using, we are always making improvements for better web IM experience. You may notice these performance improvement, or you may find other bad things which annoy you, please leave us comments or file bugs. We are listening.

Quicker loading, smaller memory usage, faster UI, ... , better web IM user experience are all our concerns.
